The Truth about Masterpoints
You must be an ACBL member to win masterpoints. If you are not a member of the ACBL you have NO masterpoints. When you see a masterpoint award on the game results, those are the points you would have won if you were an ACBL member.
Partners need not be an ACBL member for their ACBL member partner to receive masterpoints. The non-member partner will not win anything. There is one exception, and that is an ACBL Membership game. In that game, both partners must be ACBL members. The membership games are offered once a year per sanctioned game. example: the Friday morning game will only have one membership game per year.
North American Pairs. At the club stage, a player may qualify and earn masterpoints with any member of the ACBL or with a non-member of the ACBL. Non-members of the ACBL may NOT participate in Unit level or higher competitions.
If you are a member of the ACBL and let your membership lapse, points earned while inactive go into an “unrecorded” status and can be reinstated by paying the dues for the period in which they were earned.
When you join the ACBL for the first time, any points earned at a club or in a tournament within the 12 months preceding membership may be posted to your account, up to a maximum of 20.
