Director Reports:
Shan Merritt, Game Manager, reported that there were 795 tables played in February. This was slightly fewer tables than in the previous year. The reason for fewer tables was thought to be the closing of the club due to inclement weather. A letter was received from ABCL authorizing an upgrade in the Club Championship. This game was set for April 1st at 1:00pm, and will include the Open Game and the 0-299 game. The directors are asked to announce that the upgrades are due to increased membership. The 0-299 Swiss Team game will be moved to the 2nd Sunday for this month only. It was asked that a comparison of table totals for each month be presented with a reference to the number of tables for the same month of the previous year.
Vicki Jennings, Player Development, reported that there have been requests for an additional 0-99 game. It was also suggested that a 0-999 game and an open game run concurrently on Wed. afternoon. No action was taken at this time. It was reported that the free play passes are selling well. Deposits are made to the VCC account by the Directors or the Player Development Chair. It was suggested that records should be kept of who bought them and they should be numbered. The authorization was given to take them to the printer and have 200 printed.
Cathy Irving, Vice President and Director of Education, reported that there will be 4 more sessions in “Play of the Hand”. The two teacher tandem seems to be working well. It was requested that the $100.00 bonus for helpers in the classroom be divided between the teachers. Authorization was given for this division of funds. There will be a Defense Class taught from May 4th through June 29th. Ray Banks and Greg Bono have been approached as instructors. The Conference Room can be rented for classes at 30-40 dollars a session. The Long Range Planning Committee will be asked to look at the possible reconfiguration of the rooms currently in use.
Nancy Luehring, Membership Chairman, reported that we currently have 690 members. There have been 217 deleted from the data base as they have been non-members for 2 years. 19 deceased members were reported to ACBL. This included members for the past 2 plus years.
Vonna Fischer, Club Manager, reported that Denny Penticoff will be the Director for the Tuesday Open game.
Peg Birzer, Publicity, asked Annette Bono to present the Brochure for the Village Card Club. Austin Araco helped with the design. He is a senior at Jessieville High School. The brochures will be delivered to the Board of Realtors, the Chamber of Commerce and the POA. We will only be allotted two paragraphs in the POA Recreation Bulletin. It was decided that the Newspaper scores will be left as they are. Someone will be found to write periodic articles for the newspaper on current events at the VCC. The purchase of a camera to have on site was discussed. No action was taken.
Correspondence. A thank you note from ACBL was received.
