Committee Reports:
Player Development - Marcy Jordan attended the Newcomers Welcome meeting which was well attended. It was decided to have just one free play coupon on which the recipients name can be written. Marcy has talked to the 0-20, 0-49 and two of the 0-99 groups encouraging them to join VCC, ACBL and play often.
Game Manager - Andy Cosby reported that he plans to have a meeting of all 13 directors a day or so before our board meetings to review any problems. Kathy and Richard will be included. We have 6 backup directors ready to step in should a replacement be needed. These directors have not been utilized in the past. The first flighted game took place on Sunday, 2/6. There were 23 tables, about twice the usual number. It was decided that two directors are needed for the four flighted games.
Purchasing - Bill Taylor showed us the new VCC stationery. It will include the address of Casa de Carta. Envelopes will be made also.
Club Manager, Richard Robertson - Both computers lost floppies last week. Both machines now have new floppies, one donated by Bob Ross. January had a record 850 tables of bridge. The STaC tournament had 223 tables. The website continues to draw many visitors. Our computers and printers continue to limp along. It was suggested that any club member buying a new computer consider contributing their old machine to VCC. A used laser printer would also be appreciated.
Director-at Large – Marilyn Biegler stated that The Village Voice recently ran an article on the STaC tournament and a picture of the 2005 Board of Directors. The new Life Masters pictures are to be published in future issues as space is available. The Newsletter will be published mid-March prior to the Sectional tournament.
Vice President, Dick Condon - The January 2005 classes had a profit of $1990. Corrections were suggested for the POA bridge tri-fold brochure to sent to all people requesting info about the Village. It will also be available for the Newcomers Welcome meetings, 2005 Sectional and a supply will be available at the club.
Treasurer, Allan Walker reported a Net Gain of $5406.63 for the month of January 2005--including $1306.75 from the DeGray Sectional, $1990 from classes & books, and a $600 refund for a double billing in October. Total Equity at the end of January climbed to $30,893.76.
Old Business:
Andy made a motion to amend the Standing Rules as follows:
((See attachment)
Seconded, approved unanimously.
There will be a Called Board Meeting at 10:00 AM on Thursday, 2/17.
Marilyn reported that signup sheets for baked goods and workers have been posted for the Sectional tournament to be held April 1, 2 & 3. The committees are busy preparing and need many volunteers to help on game days. Most jobs can be done either before or after the games.
New Business:
Andy proposed that we adopt the following limits on flighted and stratified games:
Flighted Games Open Games Limited Games
Flight A: 0-unlimited Strat A: 1000+ Strat A: 100-199
Flight B: 0-999 Strat B: 300-900 Strat B: 50-99
Flight C: 0-299 Strat C: 0-299 Strat C: 0-49
Flight D: 0-99
Motion made and carried.
Resolution made to start a flighted game on Thursday afternoon starting March 10. Beginning March 18 Hand Records will be distributed so that all sections play the same hands. A hand record recap will be posted on the website along with the game results and an optional no charge Chalk Talk review will be offered the following day 30 minutes before the game. This will be on a two-month trial basis.
Motion made and carried.
Bill Taylor will order a new ACBL handbook for the club.
The Board approved giving 10 free play coupons to the Lioness Club as it has done in the past.
A free play coupon will be given to each participant in the Bidding and Play of Hand classes at the end of the 8 week course.
The next regular Board meeting will be March 11th at 2:15 PM
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
