Job Description
PRESIDENT
The president shall serve as the presiding officer for all business meetings, as chairman of the Board of directors, and will present to the general membership such recommendations as the Board shall deem necessary
1. Responsible for conducting the business of the Board in a fair, orderly, and expeditious manner. Board decisions will reflect the will of the majority, with the opinions of the minority encouraged and openly expressed.
2. Roberts Rules of Order, Revised will be the governing authority. As such, it is a strong general guideline, to be followed in all business meetings but need not be strictly enforced.
3. Responsible for conducting two meetings each year of the general membership.
4. Appoint with Board approval, Chairpersons and committee members needed for the operation of the club.
5. Serve as ex-offico on all committees, with the exception of the nominating, audit, and finance committees.
6. Hold Board members including the ACBL Club manager accountable in the performance of their duties as outlined in the bylaws and standing rules.
7. Serve as official representative of the club.
8. Approve expenditures over $ 100 by club employees and sign checks, both in the absence of the treasurer.
9. Ensure that the voice of all members is heard by the Board, and ensure that the Board considers significant minority opinions on issues being discussed by the Board.
10. Encourage positive leadership by the Board, all VCC employees, and committee members; for example, constructive ideas, open-mindedness, involving everyone, active listening.
11. Encourage transparency of Board business matters, with the exception of specific Conduct and Ethics rulings, which must be kept confidential to respect the privacy of offending parties in such matters.
12. Challenge the organization to conduct themselves in ways that stimulate membership and bridge playing frequency.
13. Responsible for conducting Board meetings monthly. Agenda is set in advance by the President and should be posted a week before each meeting. Board member should give their agenda requests to the President in advance of the posting, as requested.
14. Follow-up with Board members regarding commitments made at board meetings.
15. Communicate key information to members using variable media such as Board resolutions,
Bulletin board postings, and game announcements.
16. Encourage documenting club procedures and policies, and online record keeping to improve transition from year to year.
17. Guard against any potential liability to the VCC and encourage fiscal prudence within the organization.
18. Encourage the development of new game directors and teachers.
